Weekend in Beaver Creek

Trying to catch up again!  So much to do, and so little time to tell about it all!!

We spent a fun weekend in the mountains in July for Daddy's race.  It was on a Sunday up at Beaver Creek Resort (near Vail), so we decided to camp out up there for the weekend.  Cam took Monday off work, so we were able to spend Saturday, Sunday and Monday having fun-filled Family Time!  It was a great weekend!!

Saturday we drove up early, and set up Camp.  We bought a new tent this spring (since our old one broke last year, and our family has since grown) and we were anxious to try it out.  It turned out to be a great investment!  It's plenty big enough for all of us, very sturdy, and easy to put up/take down.  There will be MANY more nights spent in that tent!!  ;)

Then we went into Vail to pick up Cam's race stuff.  We did a little exploring, shopping, and got dinner.  We stopped at a pizza place called Blue Moose Pizza, and it was SO YUMMY!!!  Cam and I ordered the "Cowboy Pizza" (half of it just pepperoni for the boys) and it was truly some of the best pizza I have ever had!  So if you are ever in Vail, stop in for some yummy pizza.  We also found some pedal cars for the boys to play in.  They belonged to the hotel nearby and are just out for the kids to play with, so cool!!  They had a blast!  Jayce hasn't quite gotten the idea of pedaling yet, but he still had fun being Fred Flinstone in it.

Camping with boys is a dirty business - This is just one day!!!

Sunday was Race day!!  Cam signed up for the 10K, and the course was up and down the ski slopes at Beaver Creek.  He said it was a beautiful and fun course, he really enjoyed it.  And he did awesome too!!  Finishing in just over 1 hr.  Which was great for me entertaining the kids.  By the time he was out of sight from the start, we had just enough time to sign up the boys for the kids run and hike up a little ways to catch Daddy at the halfway point.  Then Riley got to do this giant trampoline/bungee cord jump and it was back to watching for Daddy at the finish!  No time for anyone to get too bored.  After Daddy finished, we rested up and waited around for the kids sprint.  Riley was hesitant to do it, but ended up having a blast!  Cam ran alongside Jayce (and didn't carry him at all!!) helping him to finish strong.  They both did so great, and had fun.  All the kids got medals at the end and got to stand up on the awards stage.  It was really cute.

After that we spent some time hiking up on Vail Mountain.  You can still buy lift tickets and hike or Mountain bike up there, so we took a ride to see the sights.  It was beautiful!  The wildflowers were gorgeous!  It didn't take long for the boys to get tired, though.  So back down for showers and dinner.

The nest day, Monday, we made pancakes for breakfast, and packed up Camp.  We had some sightseeing to do on the way down so we had to get moving early.  We took the scenic Loveland Pass route home, stopping in Georgetown to ride the Train!  It was a fun little out and back ride from Georgetown to Silver Plume.  We opted to stop for the Mine Tour along the way and that was pretty interesting too.  It was Jayce's first train ride, and given how infatuated he is with "Choo-Choo's" right now, he loved it!  We took Riley on a train ride when he was 2, so it was Jayce's turn.  He didn't disappoint, loving to see it, hear it and watch it go.
Mommy forgot to grab the skillet, so we had Pancakes in a Pot!

It was a loud train!

No place big enough to turn the train around, so one direction they have to run it in reverse!

And of course they were so pooped they slept almost the entire way back home.  It was a great weekend, something I would like to make an annual event!  Amara was such a trooper, I think we have a real camper at heart.  She did better than either of the boys at that age!!  Camping is definitely in our future, which makes this mama happy!!
